Berachah Place: Caring for Red Deer's Homeless Print E-mail

homeless-pic"Blessings come in strange ways. Berachah Place was recently flooded when a sump pump burned out. Kimberly Wilson, the Director of Berachah Place, has a way of seeing blessings even in difficulty. Word quickly spread on the street and the homeless people that Berachah Place serves came out in force to help with the clean up. They worked hard to cut up and carry out the carpet and the dry wall that was destroyed. Kim was encouraged to see they cared enough to help out.

Here at Balmoral our caring for those who are homeless can take many different forms. We too can be an encouragement. Have you noticed the Berachah Place 'Blessing Cupboard' in the front entrance filling up week by week? Something as simple as a towel, shampoo or some sunscreen can be gift of kindness to someone on the street. Nine out of ten of Berachah's guests are men. So guys, when it's time to clean out that closet remember what we have in excess may be the change of clothes that blesses someone in need. Homemade cookies packed with an encouragement card are always a blessing. Would you like to help with the repairs needed after the flood? Check out the reverse side for a list of ways to be a blessing.

  • Bring spare towels, laundry soap, shampoo, conditioner and sun screen to the Berachah blessing cupboard in the front entrance of the chapel.
  • Make a gift of new socks or underwear or bring other items of used clothing that have been gently used.
  • When you are baking, remember Berachah Place and bring cookies, muffins etc. Label baking to alert for allergies.
  • Berachah could use volunteers (sign up at the welcome centre).
  • Would you like to help with preparing a simple lunch, one or two days a week? The food is provided.
  • Would you like to sign up to help with the repairs needed after the flood?
  • Would you like to be a part of a monthly prayer time for Berachah with Kim Wilson?
